SJVN Limited has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT Patna) to implement advanced geological models in SJVN’s tunnelling projects. This collaboration aims to streamline project timelines and reduce cost overruns significantly.
A key aspect of this partnership involves the development of predictive analytics algorithms. Leveraging integrated geotechnical data, these algorithms will identify potential risks and offer early warning systems tailored specifically for tunnelling projects. By taking proactive measures, the initiative is expected to mitigate both time and cost overruns during project execution.
Smt. Geeta Kapur, Chairperson & Managing Director of SJVN, highlighted that the primary objective of the MoU is to pioneer cutting-edge methodologies that integrate various geotechnical data sources. These sources include geological surveys, borehole data, geophysical measurements, and project monitoring data from SJVN’s projects.
Furthermore, the collaboration seeks to enhance the understanding of the complex relationship between overburden and deformation. This understanding will lead to improved evaluation and design of support systems crucial for tunnelling projects. By harnessing integrated geotechnical data and 3D geological models, SJVN and IIT Patna aim to identify and analyze potential risks and hazards effectively.
The MoU was signed in the presence of SJVN’s Director (Finance), Shri A.K. Singh, and IIT Patna’s Director, Shri T.N. Singh, in New Delhi on April 2, 2024. Key representatives from both organizations, including senior officials from SJVN and Professor A.K. Verma from IIT Patna, attended the signing ceremony.
This collaboration underscores the commitment of SJVN and IIT Patna to drive sustainable development and technological excellence, marking a significant step towards enhancing tunnelling project performance.
