The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) – Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) in Dehradun celebrated its 65th Foundation Day on campus today. The institute, a leading R&D organization, was established on April 14, 1960. Padma Bhushan Dr. V.K. Saraswat, Hon’ble Member of NITI Aayog and Mentor of CSIR-IIP, graced the event as the Chief Guest. The celebration emphasized the institute’s rich history of pioneering research, innovative technologies, and industry collaborations.
Dr. Saraswat congratulated the CSIR-IIP team and offered his best wishes on the occasion. He delivered a lecture on “Energy Transition in India,” underlining the importance of clean and carbon-free technologies for a sustainable future. He urged scientists to undertake challenging research in e-Methanol and Green Hydrogen and stressed that for Indian technologies to remain globally competitive, a focus on carbon neutrality is crucial.
Dr. Saraswat also engaged with the scientific community at CSIR-IIP, commending the team of scientists, technicians, students, and staff for their contributions to the institute’s success. The director of CSIR-IIP presented the institute’s roadmap from 2024 to 2030, aiming to contribute to the development of India. Dr. Saraswat offered his insights on how to enhance the plan for the benefit of the nation.
Dr. Harender Singh Bisht, Director of CSIR-IIP, highlighted the institute’s achievements over the past 64 years, including projects such as the Numaligarh Wax Plant, Sustainable Aviation Fuel, US Grade Gasoline, Medical Oxygen Units, Sweeting Catalyst, PNG Burner, and Improved Gur Bhatti, among others.
Students and teachers from Oak Grove School in Mussoorie also participated in the program as part of the Jigyasa 2.0 initiative. They visited various laboratories at the institute and interacted with scientists and research scholars. The Jigyasa 2.0 program aims to foster scientific curiosity among school children to inspire future scientists.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Shri Anjum Sharma, Senior Controller of Administration at CSIR-IIP. The CSIR-IIP team expressed gratitude to everyone who supported the program, making it a success.
