New Delhi: A devastating fire erupted late Saturday at a children’s hospital in Delhi, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least seven newborns, officials reported. The blaze occurred at a baby care centre in the Vivek Vihar area of East Delhi.
The Delhi Fire Services received a distress call at 11:32 pm, prompting the dispatch of 16 fire tenders to the scene. Despite the efforts of the emergency responders, seven newborns succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.
Authorities confirmed that 12 newborns were rescued from the building. Five of the rescued children are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
In a separate incident on Saturday night, a fire broke out in a residential building in Delhi’s Shahdara area. Five fire brigade vehicles were deployed, rescuing 13 individuals who were subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment.
Earlier the same day, a catastrophic fire at a gaming zone in Rajkot, Gujarat, claimed the lives of 27 people, including nine children.
