In an exclusive interview with Network18 Group Editor-in-Chief Rahul Joshi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah dismissed allegations by the Opposition regarding EVM tampering and the Bharatiya Janata Party’s alleged benefit from such practices.
Shah criticized the Opposition’s tendency to question the election process only when the results are unfavourable to them. “If we won because of EVMs, why did we lose in Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, and Bengal? We’ve been losing in Kerala for years,” Shah remarked, pointing out inconsistencies in the Opposition’s claims.
Regarding “One Nation, One Election,” Shah reiterated the BJP’s commitment to implementing the policy, which the party has included in its manifesto.
The Election Commission has adjusted its protocol for handling and storing symbol loading units (SLUs) as per the Supreme Court’s guidelines. These protocols involve sealing and securing the units in a container and storing them in a strongroom with the EVMs for at least 45 days after results are announced.
Additionally, the Supreme Court recently upheld the electronic voting machine (EVM) system, rejecting calls for a return to paper ballots. The court emphasized the need for scrutiny when raising concerns about the electoral process.
