Arvind Kejriwal avoided addressing questions regarding the controversy surrounding Swati Maliwal during a joint press conference with his INDIA party ally Akhilesh Yadav. As Kejriwal remained silent, his colleague Sanjay Singh stepped in and provided a response.
Sanjay Singh raised other incidents, such as the plight of tribal women in Manipur and allegations of sexual assault against Prajwal Revanna, a BJP ally.
He highlighted Swati Maliwal’s advocacy for justice during protests by female wrestlers at Jantar Mantar, underscoring her confrontation with the police during that event.
Emphasizing the unity within the Aam Aadmi Party, Singh urged the Prime Minister and the BJP to address the raised issues, warning against politicizing the matter.
The BJP accused Kejriwal of shielding his personal assistant, Bibhav Kumar, who allegedly mistreated Swati Maliwal at the Delhi Chief Minister’s residence.
Swati Maliwal, former head of the Delhi Commission for Women, has not made a public statement on the matter, which has become a focal point during national elections.
Amid escalating criticism from the BJP, Sanjay Singh assured on Tuesday that the Chief Minister was aware of the incident and would take appropriate action.
However, the BJP staged protests in Delhi demanding an FIR against Kejriwal’s aide and advocating for “justice for Swati Maliwal.”
Furthermore, BJP leaders claimed that Kejriwal and other AAP members were seen at Lucknow airport with the individual accused of assaulting the MP, while Maliwal was reportedly unreachable.
