Cyclone Remal: Kolkata Airport Suspends Operations Due to Severe Weather
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a severe cyclone warning for Cyclone Remal on Saturday. The cyclone is expected to hit West Bengal on Sunday, bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds to the coastal regions of Bangladesh and West Bengal on May 26.
Initially identified as a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal on May 22, the depression has intensified and is currently positioned in the central Bay of Bengal. The IMD forecasts that this system will develop into a cyclone and move towards northeastern India by the morning of May 25.
Alongside West Bengal, northeastern states such as Tripura, Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur are also expected to experience rainfall and strong winds. Tripura’s regional meteorological centre has issued an advisory warning of adverse weather conditions starting May 26.
