The three MLAs—Sombir Sangwan, Randhir Gollen, and Dharampal Gonder—have announced their support for the Congress during the elections.
Chandigarh: In a significant blow to Haryana’s ruling BJP during the Lok Sabha elections, three Independent MLAs announced today that they have pulled their support from the Nayab Singh Saini-led government in the state.
The three MLAs—Sombir Sangwan, Randhir Gollen, and Dharampal Gonder—revealed their decision to back the Congress during a press conference in Rohtak, attended by former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and state Congress chief Udai Bhan.
“We are withdrawing support from the government and aligning with Congress,” Mr. Gonder stated. “This decision is based on various issues, particularly those affecting farmers,” he added.
Udai Bhan echoed the sentiments, noting, “The three Independent MLAs—Sombir Sangwan, Randhir Singh Gollen, and Dharampal Gonder—have severed their support from the BJP government and are now backing Congress.”
The 90-member Haryana Assembly now consists of 88 seats, with the BJP holding 40. Initially, the BJP had support from the JJP and Independent members, but JJP has already retracted its support. Now, with the Independents aligning with Congress, the Saini government finds itself in the minority.
Bhan urged Saini to resign, asserting, “Nayab Singh Saini’s government is now in the minority. He should step down immediately as he no longer has the mandate to govern.”
