Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed on Sunday that the INDIA bloc parties plan to rewrite the Constitution to provide reservations based on religion. Addressing a public meeting in Ghosi, Purvanchal, he alleged that they aim to turn the country’s majority community into second-class citizens.
PM Modi accused the opposition of wanting to end the reservations currently given to SC, ST, and OBC communities and transfer them entirely to Muslims. He further alleged that INDIA bloc partners, such as the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress, have neglected Purvanchal over the years, turning it into a “region of mafia, poverty, and helplessness.”
“The SP and INDIA bloc are making castes fight among themselves to divert people’s attention from real issues,” PM Modi said. He outlined three “big conspiracies” of the INDIA bloc:
- Changing the Constitution to introduce religion-based reservations.
- Ending reservations for SC, ST, and OBC communities.
- Allocating all reservations to Muslims.
PM Modi also claimed that a new method has been devised to bypass OBC reservations by declaring Muslim castes as OBC overnight, citing a recent Calcutta High Court rejection of OBC status for 77 Muslim castes.
“The SP, Congress, and INDIA bloc want to make the majority community in India second-class citizens,” he asserted, accusing the Samajwadi Party of deliberately keeping Purvanchal backward.
“The families of SP and Congress, with their dynastic mindset, turned Purvanchal into a region of mafia, poverty, and helplessness,” he added. He urged the people of Purvanchal not to allow those associated with the INDI Alliance, whom he accused of causing unrest and supporting rioters, to return to the region.
The rally supported BJP and NDA candidates from Ghosi, Salempur, and Ballia Lok Sabha seats. PM Modi referred to previous SP and Congress manifestos, claiming that in the 2012 assembly polls, the SP had promised to provide reservations to Muslims similar to those given to Dalits by Babasaheb Ambedkar.
He also alleged that Congress had declared educational establishments as minority institutions to provide reservations to Muslims, thus ending the reservations that SC, ST, and OBC students previously received.
“The entire world is watching the ongoing general elections in India,” PM Modi said, emphasizing the global impact of electing a powerful government and prime minister.
NDA partner Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party has fielded Arvind Rajbhar from the Ghosi Lok Sabha seat. The BJP has fielded Neeraj Shekhar and Ravindra Kushwaha from Ballia and Salempur Lok Sabha seats, respectively.
