Karnataka Police have summoned Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President JP Nadda and the party’s IT-cell head, Amit Malviya, regarding a tweet from BJP Karnataka allegedly targeting the SC/ST community. Both leaders have been requested to appear at Bengaluru’s High Grounds police station within seven days.
A complaint was filed by Ramesh Babu on May 5 at the High Grounds police station regarding a video posted on BJP Karnataka’s X handle. The video allegedly incites enmity and hatred towards the SC/ST community. An FIR was registered, and an investigation is underway.
The notice from Karnataka Police instructs both Nadda and Malviya to meet the investigating officer at 11:00 am at the High Grounds police station within seven days of receiving the notice.
On Tuesday, the Election Commission of India asked the X platform to take down an “objectionable” social media post by BJP Karnataka, citing violations of the legal framework.
On May 4, BJP Karnataka posted an animated video on the social media platform ‘X’ depicting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the context of the reservation issue, according to ANI. On May 5, the Congress party filed a complaint with the Election Commission, accusing BJP Karnataka of trying to incite riots and promote enmity.
The elections for the 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka were held in two phases, on April 26 and May 7.
