Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, faces multiple charges of sexual abuse.**
New Delhi: On Wednesday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wrote another letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the cancellation of the diplomatic passport of suspended Janata Dal Secular MP Prajwal Revanna. Revanna faces allegations of sexually abusing several women.
Siddaramaiah called it “shameful” that Prajwal Revanna, nominated by the Modi-led NDA from Karnataka’s Hassan Lok Sabha seat, fled to Germany on April 27 using his diplomatic passport. He escaped shortly after news of his “heinous actions” surfaced and mere hours before the first case was filed against him, Siddaramaiah noted in his letter to PM Modi.
“He has abused his diplomatic privileges to flee the country and evade criminal proceedings,” Siddaramaiah alleged.
Sources indicate that the Ministry of External Affairs has also received a request from the Karnataka government to cancel Revanna’s diplomatic passport.
The Karnataka Chief Minister expressed serious concern that despite a Look Out Circular and a Blue Corner Notice against him, Revanna remains in hiding. “It is disheartening that my previous letter raising similar concerns has not been acted upon despite the gravity of the situation,” Siddaramaiah added, referencing a similar appeal made earlier this month.
Urging PM Modi to treat this matter with “utmost seriousness,” Siddaramaiah requested immediate action to cancel the 33-year-old MP’s diplomatic passport.
Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and son of Karnataka MLA HD Revanna, is charged with multiple instances of sexually abusing women.
Last month, explicit video clips allegedly showing Revanna sexually abusing several women circulated in Hassan, prompting the Karnataka government to form a team to investigate the crime allegedly involving the MP.
