Jabalpur — The parents of two software engineers who died in a car accident in Pune have called for the Supreme Court to oversee the investigation and trial of the case. They also demand that the trial be conducted in Madhya Pradesh, their home state, rather than in Maharashtra.
Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both 24-year-old IT professionals from Madhya Pradesh, were killed on May 19 when a speeding Porsche, allegedly driven by a 17-year-old boy, struck their motorcycle in Pune. Ashwini was from Jabalpur, and Anish was from Birsinghpur Pali in the Umaria district.
Speaking to PTI, Ashwini’s father, Suresh Kumar Koshta, stated, “The Supreme Court should monitor the investigation and trial to ensure we get justice.” He further insisted that the accused should be tried as an adult due to the gravity of the crime.
Koshta also claimed that the accused was intoxicated at the time of the accident. After the crash, the teenager was presented before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), which granted him bail and required him to write a 300-word essay. Following public outrage and a police review plea, the JJB remanded the teen, the son of real estate developer Vishal Agarwal, to an observation home until June 5. The police have also arrested the teenager’s father.
Anish’s father, Om Prakash Awadhiya, expressed his determination to seek justice, saying, “I am going to fight for justice till my last breath.” He emphasized that the trial should take place in Madhya Pradesh to ensure fair treatment for the families. Awadhiya accused the police of giving the accused VIP treatment despite his lack of a driving license and argued that the accident should be treated as a double murder.
