The Maharashtra government has established a three-member committee following the arrest of two doctors and an employee from Sassoon General Hospital in Pune. They are accused of manipulating the blood sample of a juvenile driver involved in a Porsche car crash.
Medical Education Commissioner Rajiv Nivatkar issued an order on Monday appointing Dr. Pallavi Sapale, Dean of Grant Medical College and J J Group of Hospitals, as the chairperson of the committee.
The other committee members include Dr Gajanan Chavan, Professor of Forensic Medicine at Grant Medical College, and Dr. Sudhir Chowdhary, Special Duty Officer at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Government Medical College and Super Speciality Hospital. The committee is scheduled to visit Pune on Tuesday.
The commissioner has directed Dr. Vinayak Kale, Dean of Sassoon General Hospital, to cooperate fully with the committee’s investigation.
Pune Police have arrested Dr. Ajay Taware, Head of the Forensic Medicine Department at Sassoon Hospital, Dr. Shrihari Halnor, Chief Medical Officer, and staff member Atul Ghatkamble. They are alleged to have manipulated blood samples and destroyed evidence related to the car accident involving a 17-year-old. All three have been remanded in police custody until May 30.
