Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting on Sunday, addressing the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir following a week of major terrorist attacks. Shah emphasized the need for a ‘Zero-Terror Plan’ in the Jammu division, similar to the successful Area Domination Plan in the Kashmir Valley.
During the extensive six-hour meeting, held in two sessions in Delhi, Shah reaffirmed the Modi government’s commitment to innovative counter-terrorism strategies. The first session reviewed the current security landscape in Jammu and Kashmir, while the second focused on preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, scheduled from June 29 to August 19.
Shah instructed all security agencies to operate in a coordinated and mission-oriented manner to ensure swift responses. He stated, “The fight against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is in its decisive phase. Recent incidents indicate that terrorism has been forced to shrink from highly organised violence to a mere proxy war. We are determined to root it out entirely.”
Key attendees included National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Army Chief General Manoj Pande, and other senior officials such as Army Chief-designate Lt. General Upendra Dwivedi and Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla.
Shah stressed the importance of seamless coordination among security agencies, identifying and addressing security concerns in vulnerable areas. He asserted, “The government will leave no stone unturned in eradicating terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir.”
Shah also highlighted the positive impact of the government’s efforts in the Kashmir Valley, noting a significant reduction in terror-related incidents and an increase in tourist activity, reflecting improved law and order.
Since June 9, the regions of Reasi, Kathua, and Doda have experienced terrorist attacks, resulting in the deaths of nine pilgrims in Doda, injuries to a civilian, and wounding at least seven security personnel.
