Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff of the Indian Navy, has arrived in Bangladesh for a four-day official visit from July 1st to 4th, 2024. The purpose of this visit is to strengthen the bilateral defence ties between India and Bangladesh and to explore new opportunities for naval cooperation.
Admiral Tripathi is scheduled to engage in bilateral discussions with Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, Chief of the Naval Staff of the Bangladesh Navy, in Dhaka. He will also be present at the Passing Out Parade at the Bangladesh Naval Academy in Chittagong on July 4th.
Throughout his visit, Admiral Tripathi will also meet with General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of the Army Staff of the Bangladesh Army, Air Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, Chief of the Air Staff of the Bangladesh Air Force, Lt Gen Mizanur Rahman Shameem, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, and other senior officials of the Bangladesh government. He will deliver a speech to participants at the National Defence College in Dhaka and tour several key defence facilities.
The naval cooperation between India and Bangladesh has historically been robust, including various operational interactions such as port calls and bilateral naval exercises, as well as initiatives for capacity building, capability enhancement, and training. This visit by Admiral Tripathi is expected to further solidify the strong friendship and collaboration between the navies of the two countries.
