The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Indian Institute of Petroleum (CSIR-IIP) wrapped up its “One Week, One Theme” (OWOT) campaign today in Dehradun, focusing on Energy and Energy Devices (EED).
Inspired by the success of the ‘One Week One Lab’ (OWOL) program in 2023, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Science and Technology, proposed the ‘One Week One Theme’ event for 2024. This initiative aims to highlight innovative approaches and technological advancements by CSIR laboratories across eight key themes, each contributing significantly to public, private, strategic, and societal benefits.
The EED theme is crucial for driving the country’s economic growth by meeting energy demands while aligning with the UN’s sustainable development goals. Key areas within this theme include Hydrogen, Batteries and other energy storage technologies, Alternative fuels (with a focus on biofuels), and Solar and Wind energy (emphasizing non-silicon and offshore technologies). Various CSIR labs are engaged in R&D programs addressing these areas.
The EED campaign began on June 24th at CSIR-NCL Pune, featuring a week of activities showcasing innovative approaches and technological advancements. These included technical sessions, outreach programs, exhibitions, and media interactions.
The campaign concluded with a valedictory function on June 28th at CSIR-IIP, following a week of intensive discussions, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration on innovative energy solutions.
Dr. H.S. Bisht, Director of CSIR-IIP, highlighted the energy-efficient technologies recently developed and commercialized by CSIR-IIP. He emphasized the institute’s commitment to creating new products, processes, and technologies to enhance the country’s energy security.
Dr. Ashish Lele, Director of CSIR-NCL and Theme Director for the EED theme, discussed the focus on developing technologies for Green Hydrogen and photovoltaic batteries.
Shri Rajiv Agrawal, Director Technical of Engineers India Ltd (EIL), presented the collaborative efforts between CSIR-IIP and EIL on the commercialization of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Ltd. He also discussed initiatives for new and cleaner energy sources, including Green Hydrogen and 2G Ethanol.
Dr. M.O. Garg, President of Petchem R&D at Reliance Industries Ltd., emphasized the critical role of engineering partners in bringing laboratory-level technologies to market.
During the technical session, participants and speakers from various CSIR laboratories, including CSIR-CSIO, CSIR-AMPRI, CSIR-NPL, CSIR-NIIST, and CSIR-CBRI, presented their challenging research work in the energy domain.
