The Israel Embassy has shifted its focus to promoting Indian beaches as tourist destinations following the ban on Israeli tourists in the Maldives. In response to this development, which arose from solidarity with Gaza amidst Israeli airstrikes, the embassy urged its citizens to explore the beautiful beaches of Goa, Kerala, Lakshadweep, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, where they are assured of a warm welcome and exceptional hospitality.
This strategic move coincides with a downturn in relations between India and the Maldives, marked by President Mohamed Muizzu’s election on an “India OUT” platform, aligning the nation more closely with China and prompting India to withdraw its troops from the island country.
Interestingly, Israel seems to be mirroring India’s approach to the Maldives. Earlier this year, India witnessed a boycott trend against the Maldives after derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, resulting in a surge of interest in domestic beach destinations like Lakshadweep.
This shift in tourist behavior prompted a plea from Maldivian officials for Indian tourists to support their economy, signaling a desire for improved relations and highlighting the interconnectedness of regional tourism economies.
