BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda has been appointed as the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, taking over from Union Minister Piyush Goyal. Goyal recently won a seat in the 18th Lok Sabha representing North Mumbai and took his oath as a member on Monday. Nadda, who was among the 41 candidates elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha in February, now also holds the portfolio of Health and Family Welfare in the new NDA government.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge continues to serve as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. In the Union Council of Ministers, there are 11 Rajya Sabha members, including Nadda.
Congratulating Nadda, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Leader of the House and the Opposition. “Greetings to J P Nadda ji on his being nominated as the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha. As Venkaiah Naidu Garu might have said — if the Leader of the House can accommodate, the Opposition can cooperate,” Ramesh posted on ‘X
