Narendra Modi is set to take the oath as Prime Minister for a historic third term at 7:15 pm today at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Ahead of the ceremony, Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Sadaiv Atal in Delhi. He also laid a wreath at the National War Memorial, accompanied by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Several key figures from the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) have gathered at Modi’s residence, including Chirag Paswan of LJP, BJP’s Piyush Goyal and S Jaishankar, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy. They are attending a tea meeting with Modi at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg before the oath-taking ceremony.
International dignitaries such as Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be present at the swearing-in event. The ceremony will be administered by President Droupadi Murmu, with Modi and his Council of Ministers taking their oaths.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has been invited to the event, although he will consult with the INDIA bloc before deciding whether to attend. Modi was formally invited to form the government by President Murmu after being chosen as the leader of the BJP-led NDA.
Security in Delhi has been tightened for the event, with extensive measures similar to those implemented during the G20 Summit. Around 2,500 police personnel, including paramilitary forces and NSG commandos, will be deployed. Airspace restrictions will be in effect from 3 pm to 11 pm, though scheduled flights will not be impacted.
Guests will start arriving at 5 pm, and the swearing-in ceremony will commence at 7:15 pm. Modi will meet with his new cabinet members over tea before the ceremony to discuss their roles in the new government.
