Nepal, Mauritius, and Bhutan were among the first nations to send congratulatory messages to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his party’s victory in the Lok Sabha elections.
On Tuesday, global leaders extended their congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his third consecutive victory in the Lok Sabha elections, solidifying the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) position.
Leaders from Nepal, Mauritius, and Bhutan acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s electoral success as the NDA prepares to form the next government, marking the third win in a row for Modi and his party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“Congratulations Prime Minister Modi Ji on your laudable victory for a historic third term. Under your helm, the largest democracy will continue to achieve remarkable progress. Long live the Mauritius-India special relationship,” Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth stated on X.
Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal also extended his congratulations. “Congratulations to PM Narendra Modi on the electoral success of BJP and NDA in the Lok Sabha elections for the third consecutive term. We are happy to note the successful completion of the world’s largest democratic exercise with enthusiastic participation of the people of India,” Dahal posted on X.
Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay expressed his anticipation of further strengthening ties with India. “Congratulations to my friend PM Narendra Modi-ji and NDA for the historic 3rd consecutive win in the world’s biggest elections. As he continues to lead Bharat to great heights, I look forward to working closely with him to further strengthen the relations between our two countries,” Tobgay said.
In response, PM Modi thanked his Nepali and Bhutanese counterparts, affirming that India would continue to work closely with Kathmandu and Thimphu.
Sri Lanka also recognized the electoral victory as a testament to the Indian people’s confidence in Modi’s leadership. “I extend my warmest felicitations to the BJP-led NDA on its victory, demonstrating the confidence of the Indian people in the progress and prosperity under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi. As the closest neighbour, Sri Lanka looks forward to further strengthening the partnership with India,” stated Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu also congratulated Modi. “Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the BJP and BJP-led NDA, on the success in the 2024 Indian General Election, for the third consecutive term. I look forward to working together to advance our shared interests in pursuit of shared prosperity and stability for our two countries,” Muizzu posted on X.
Despite recent strains in India-Maldives relations due to remarks by Muizzu and his ministers, the Muizzu government expressed its commitment to working collaboratively with India.
