In the third terror strike within three days in the otherwise tranquil Jammu region, militants attacked an army outpost in the Chattergala area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Tuesday night. Six people, including five soldiers, were injured in the assault. This incident followed another attack in Kathua, which resulted in injuries to one civilian.
Security forces and police reinforcements were promptly dispatched to Chattergala, located about 35 kilometers from Bhaderwah, to search for the militants responsible. The attack took place at an elevation of 12,000 feet in the picturesque Chattergala area, known for attracting tourists from across the country.
According to sources, around 8 PM, militants opened fire on a tin shed used as a joint checkpoint by the Army and police at Chattergala, which borders the Sarthal area of Kathua district. The militants also hurled a grenade at the checkpoint, leading to a retaliatory exchange of fire that lasted until the early hours of Wednesday.
Following the clash, the injured soldiers and a special police officer (SPO) were initially taken to Bhaderwah hospital and later transferred to the Army’s Command Hospital in Udhampur.
In response to the attack, the police halted all vehicle movement towards Chattergala from Bhaderwah and intensified the search for the fleeing militants. This attack occurred shortly after a militant strike in Saida village in Kathua district on Tuesday evening, which left one civilian injured and resulted in the neutralization of one militant while searches for his accomplice continued.
