Following exit polls indicating a likely third term for the NDA government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a review meeting to discuss the implementation of a 100-day programme, set to begin once the new government is formed.
On June 2, senior bureaucrats from the Government of India attended the meeting. Sources reveal that at least 10 sectoral groups, each led by a Secretary-level official, have been established to oversee the agenda’s implementation within the first 100 days of the new administration.
- Sectoral Groups of Secretaries (SGOS):
- Formed in February, each group is headed by a Secretary and includes four to five senior officers.
- These groups focus on areas such as governance, infrastructure, security, and the economy.
- Plans are scheduled to commence by July 1, following refinement during the election period under the supervision of Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba.
- Governance Initiatives:
- The SGOS for governance will review the foundation courses of the Union Public Services Commission (UPSC).
- They will also launch a ‘Karmayogi Talent Bank’ to evaluate civil servants before promotions.
- Simultaneous Polls:
- The BJP manifesto promises simultaneous polls for the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.
- Developing a common electoral roll, crucial for this initiative, is part of the 100-day plan.
Several sectoral groups presented their plans to the Prime Minister on Sunday. Modi also chaired review meetings on the aftermath of Cyclone Remal and addressed the challenges posed by the heatwave affecting northern and western India.
This comprehensive agenda underscores the government’s commitment to rapid and efficient implementation of its priorities in the early days of the new term, aligning with the BJP’s broader electoral promises and governance goals.
