Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to travel to Italy to participate in the G7 Summit, scheduled from June 13-15 at the Borgo Egnazia resort in the Apulia region. This summit will likely focus on the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.
The G7 Summit will see leaders from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, France, and the European Union in attendance. India has been invited as an outreach country, with defence and maritime cooperation high on its agenda. Ambassador Vani Rao emphasized the importance of building cooperation in critical technologies and linking the defence industries of participating countries.
This visit marks PM Modi’s first international trip since beginning his third term as Prime Minister. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, according to Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra. Modi plans to continue discussions on key issues raised during India’s G20 presidency.
Ukraine is expected to be a major topic of discussion. India has consistently advocated for resolving the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, highlighting the impact of the conflict on developing countries’ priorities and interests.
During the summit, PM Modi will meet several world leaders, including US President Joe Biden and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, to discuss bilateral relations.
