Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, assessed the worsening flood conditions in the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency and Dibrugarh City. The minister was briefed on the government’s efforts to mitigate the impact of the floods, which have severely disrupted daily life. With torrential rains causing havoc, Shri Sonowal directed officials to take immediate action and implement emergency measures to minimise damage.
In Dibrugarh City, where the Brahmaputra river’s water level has crossed the danger mark, Shri Sonowal emphasized the urgency of the situation. Many areas of the city are severely affected, prompting the minister to call for heightened administrative efforts to manage and reduce the flood damage. He discussed the situation with Sanjay Kishan, Assam’s Minister of Tea Tribes Welfare and Labour Welfare and MLA of Tinsukia LAC, and Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Minister of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs and Guardian Minister of Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts. The Guardian Minister is expected to visit the affected areas tomorrow to review the relief management efforts.
Following a meeting with officials, Shri Sonowal expressed his concern over the grim flood situation in Dibrugarh LSC. He stressed the importance of emergency measures and swift relief efforts, particularly in light of the forecast for continued rains. In Dibrugarh City, emergency measures are in place to counter the severe flooding, and Shri Sonowal has instructed officials to ensure that relief is provided promptly to those affected.
During his visit, Shri Sonowal also met with the MLA of Dibrugarh, Prashanta Phukan, as well as top officials from the Dibrugarh Municipality Corporation, including Mayor Saikat Patra, Deputy Mayor Ujjwal Phukan, Ward Commissioners, and other senior officials. The Chief Secretary of Assam, Ravi Kota, and the District Commissioner, Bikram Kairi, were also present. Shri Sonowal directed all officials to take immediate measures and provide necessary relief to the flood victims.
