In a surprising move, Krishna Kumari Rai, wife of Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, resigned from her position as an MLA just a day after taking oath. The official notification of her resignation was issued on Thursday, though the reason behind her sudden departure remains unclear.
Krishna Kumari Rai had recently won the Namchi-Singhithang seat, defeating Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) candidate Bimal Rai in the assembly elections. Her resignation has been accepted by Speaker M N Sherpa, according to Sikkim Legislative Assembly Secretary Lalit Kumar Gurung.
Attempts to contact Krishna Kumari Rai or the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha leadership for comments have been unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang is currently in Arunachal Pradesh for the swearing-in ceremony of his counterpart, Pema Khandu.
