The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) announced the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability (Ninth Amendment) Regulations, 2024, on March 14, 2024. These regulations are set to take effect on July 1, 2024.
The new rules aim to curb fraudulent mobile number porting through deceitful SIM swaps or replacements. An additional rule has been introduced, which prevents the issuance of a Unique Porting Code (UPC) if the request is made within seven days of a SIM swap or replacement.
