The Vice President, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, recognized the historical significance of the government’s unprecedented third term, marking the first instance in six decades. He underscored the rarity of this achievement, stating, “For the first time since 1962, a Prime Minister has secured a third term.”
Speaking at the Rajya Sabha Internship Programme held at the Vice President’s enclave, Shri Dhankhar encouraged interns to utilize the power of social media to voice their opinions and vigilantly guard against detrimental trends in democracy. Stressing the importance of constructive debate and dialogue in Parliament for positive progress, he urged interns to mobilize public opinion in the event of any departure from these principles.
Furthermore, Shri Dhankhar asserted that India is no longer a dormant giant but a nation in motion, advancing each day. Advising interns to consult the Indian Constitution for clarity whenever in doubt, he emphasized its pivotal role in guiding democratic processes.
Referring to the internship programme as a “Parliamentary Startup,” Shri Dhankhar highlighted its potential to steer engagement with democratic processes and empower citizens to raise public issues through petitions, even without being elected representatives.
The event was attended by Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Shri Harivansh, Secretary General of Rajya Sabha, Shri P.C. Mody, Secretary to the Vice President, Shri Sunil Kumar Gupta, Secretary of Rajya Sabha, Shri Rajit Punhani, and other senior officials.
