Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, chaired a high-level meeting today to review the security situation in Manipur. The meeting, held in New Delhi, included the presence of key officials such as the Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande, Union Home Secretary, Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB), Chief of Army Staff (Designate) Lt. General Upendra Dwivedi, Security Advisor to the Government of Manipur, Director General of Assam Rifles, Chief Secretary of Manipur, Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur, and senior officials from the Army and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
During the meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted a comprehensive review of the security situation in Manipur. He emphasized the strategic deployment of central forces to restore peace and tranquility in the region, noting that the number of forces will be increased if necessary. Shri Shah stressed that strict legal action must be taken against individuals involved in violence to ensure no further incidents occur.
Amit Shah reiterated the Government of India’s commitment, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens in Manipur. He reviewed the conditions in relief camps, emphasizing the need for proper availability of food, water, medicines, and other basic amenities. The Home Minister directed the Chief Secretary of Manipur to ensure adequate health and education facilities for displaced people and their rehabilitation.
Shri Amit Shah also highlighted the importance of a coordinated approach to resolving the ongoing ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities. He announced that the Ministry of Home Affairs will engage in dialogues with both groups to bridge the ethnic divide as soon as possible. The Government of India has been actively supporting the Manipur Government in strengthening the security situation in the state.
