The Ministry of Coal has initiated the 10th tranche of commercial coal mine auctions, offering 67 coal mines across eight states. Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, launched this tranche in Hyderabad, accompanied by Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Shri Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Minister of State for Coal and Mines Shri Satish Chandra Dubey.

The Ministry has undertaken several reforms to accelerate the growth of the coal sector to meet India’s energy requirements. Mines in protected areas, wildlife sanctuaries, critical habitats, and those with over 40% forest cover or dense habitation have been excluded to enhance the attractiveness of the offered blocks.
Emphasized coal’s vital role in achieving a $5 trillion economy and the importance of domestic coal production to reduce import dependence. He urged coal entrepreneurs to contribute to making India Aatmanirbhar (self-reliant) in coal.
Praised the Ministry of Coal for its efforts in reducing foreign coal imports and producing nearly 1 billion tonnes of coal in the last financial year.
Promised support to coal block allocatees to improve the ease of doing business. He highlighted the importance of the coal mining sector in India’s self-reliance goals and mentioned ongoing efforts to incorporate industry feedback. Stressed the need to increase coal production to meet energy demands without compromising worker safety. He called for the adoption of global best practices and emphasized transparency and environmental sustainability.Highlighted the importance of exploring more coal blocks to meet rising demand and the role of private investment in achieving higher production targets.
The sale of tender documents begins today, June 21, 2024. Details on the mines, auction terms, and timelines are available on the MSTC auction platform and the Ministry of Coal’s website. The auction will be conducted online through a transparent two-stage process based on Percentage Revenue Share. Revenue generated from these auctions will benefit the respective state governments.
