Four Army personnel were killed and six injured after terrorists attacked a military convoy in the remote Machedi area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Monday afternoon. The Army vehicles were on a routine patrol on the Machedi-Kindli-Malhar road, about 150 km from Kathua when the attack occurred. The injured have been transported to a hospital for treatment.
The terrorists initiated the attack by throwing a grenade and then opening fire. Security forces retaliated, but the terrorists fled into the nearby forest, according to officials. Reinforcements were quickly deployed, and a search operation was launched to track down the terrorists. Officials reported intermittent firing between the terrorists and security forces.
This is the second attack on the Indian Army in the Jammu region in the past 48 hours. On Sunday, an Army camp in Rajouri district was attacked, resulting in one soldier being injured.
Monday’s attack came 24 hours after six terrorists were killed in two separate encounters in J&K’s Kulgam district. These encounters, which began on Saturday, also claimed the lives of two soldiers, including a paratrooper, and injured another, according to police.
The first encounter occurred in Modergam village when security forces, including the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Army, and local police, launched a search operation based on intelligence about terrorist presence. During the initial exchange of gunfire, a paratrooper was fatally wounded. The operation escalated into a full-scale assault on a target house where terrorists had taken shelter. By late Saturday night, security forces destroyed the house and recovered the bodies of two terrorists.
Simultaneously, another intense gun battle took place in Kulgam’s Frisal area. Drone footage revealed the bodies of four terrorists after a prolonged firefight. One soldier was killed, and another was injured in this clash.
