In a significant move to exam malpractices, Bihar Police arrested twelve individuals, including two women, on Sunday for their involvement in a cheating scandal during the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2024. These individuals were allegedly impersonating legitimate candidates across various exam centers in Darbhanga district.
Darbhanga’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jagunath Reddy, reported that nine arrests were made at different centers within the Laheriasarai police station’s jurisdiction. Additionally, two suspects were apprehended from a center under the Sadar police station, while one was detained from a center governed by the Bahadurpur police station.
The fraud was uncovered through biometric fingerprint scans conducted at the exam centers. Upon discovering the discrepancies, invigilators and administrators promptly filed complaints, leading to police intervention. The arrested individuals are currently being interrogated, and cases have been registered against them. Authorities are also investigating the involvement of genuine candidates and probing potential links to interstate cheating syndicates.
The CTET is a national-level exam held annually for aspiring teachers seeking positions in the government sector.
Cyber Fraudsters Nabbed in Bihar and Jharkhand
In a related development, Delhi Police arrested six cyber fraudsters from Bihar and Jharkhand earlier on Sunday. These individuals were involved in selling their bank accounts on a commission basis to defraud people. The suspects have been identified as Raushan Kumar Shukla, Shivendra Kumar, Tushar Karmakar, Sagar Karmakar, Rahul Patro, and Raju Patro.
The arrests followed a complaint where the victim, a woman, had responded to an online advertisement seeking financial help for an ailing relative. After transferring Rs 3 lakh to the fraudsters, the victim realized she had been duped when the accused switched off their phones, leading her to file an FIR. An investigation ensued, resulting in the apprehension of the suspects.
