Three UPSC aspirants tragically lost their lives after the basement of Rau’s Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar flooded due to recent heavy rains. In response, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation, holding him accountable for the incident.
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva criticized the Delhi government, stating, “The Delhi government is nurturing corruption and is itself corrupt. Why doesn’t their Chief Minister resign, who is in jail? Why don’t their other ministers work?” He further accused the government of focusing more on Kejriwal’s health than on preventing such incidents.
BJP leader RP Singh echoed these sentiments, describing the deaths not as accidents but as “murders.” He highlighted the ongoing waterlogging issues in the area, questioning how a coaching center and library were allowed to operate in such conditions. Singh urged the Delhi Lieutenant Governor to investigate and hold officials accountable.
Responding to AAP MP Sanjay Singh’s remarks blaming the BJP and Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, RP Singh suggested that if Sanjay Singh feels incapable of running the government, he should resign. He questioned the efficacy of governance when the Chief Minister is in jail and other ministers are not performing their duties.
In light of the incident, the AAP-controlled Municipal Corporation of Delhi sealed the basements of 13 coaching centers in Karol Bagh on Sunday for violating building bylaws. Earth movers were deployed to remove encroachments over drains in Old Rajinder Nagar following protests by students. Sanjay Singh asserted that action would be taken against officials involved in allowing illegal operations of coaching centers and libraries, emphasizing the responsibility of the Lieutenant Governor to enforce these measures.
