In June 2024, domestic two-wheeler sales surged to 16,14,154 units, marking a 21.2 percent year-on-year (YoY) increase from the 13,30,826 units sold during the same period last year.
Motorcycles led the way with 10,30,906 units sold, compared to 9,08,954 units in June 2023, reflecting a 13.4 percent YoY growth. Scooters saw an impressive 40 percent growth, with sales rising to 5,42,851 units from 3,87,373 units in June 2023.
Exports in June 2024 also saw an uptick, with a total of 2,88,967 units shipped, registering a 5.8 percent YoY growth. Of these, 2,49,621 units were motorcycles, and 39,262 units were scooters, showing YoY growth rates of 5.2 percent and 10.1 percent, respectively.
Vinod Aggarwal, President of SIAM, commented, All segments, including Passenger Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles, Three-Wheelers, and Two-Wheelers, posted growth in Q1 of 2024-25 compared to Q1 of last year. While Passenger Vehicles and Commercial Vehicles saw moderate growth, Two-Wheelers and Three-Wheelers experienced robust double-digit growth. Two-wheelers and scooters posted even higher growth, indicating signs of recovery in entry-level two-wheelers.
