Tech billionaire Elon Musk congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday for becoming the most followed world leader on X (formerly Twitter), achieving a milestone of 100 million followers.
“Congratulations PM @NarendraModi on being the most followed world leader!” Musk tweeted.
On July 14, PM Modi announced this historic milestone on X, celebrating the platform as a space for vibrant discussion, debate, insights, blessings, and constructive criticism. He expressed his eagerness for continued engagement with his followers.
PM Modi’s follower count surpasses those of other world leaders, including US President Joe Biden (38.1 million), Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed (11.2 million), and Pope Francis (18.5 million). His social media presence also exceeds that of global celebrities like Taylor Swift (95.3 million), Lady Gaga (83.1 million), and Kim Kardashian (75.2 million), as well as popular athletes such as Virat Kohli (64.1 million), Neymar Jr (63.6 million), and LeBron James (52.9 million).
In the past three years, PM Modi’s X handle has grown by approximately 30 million followers. Since joining X in 2009, he has actively used the platform for engagement, following and interacting with numerous citizens without blocking anyone.
Musk had announced a visit to India before the Lok Sabha elections but postponed it due to commitments with Tesla. In June last year, Musk met PM Modi in the US, where he expressed admiration for the Prime Minister and discussed potential Tesla investments in India.
