The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) operates two hospitals in Assam, located in Beltola (Guwahati) and Tinsukia, with a total of 41 doctors on staff. Additionally, there are three ESIC-run Dispensary-cum-Branch Offices (DCBOs) in the North Eastern region: one each in Papumpare (Arunachal Pradesh), Darrang (Assam), and Imphal West (Manipur), each staffed by one doctor.
Furthermore, the ESI Scheme (ESIS) includes 41 state-run dispensaries.
To enhance medical services and infrastructure in the North Eastern region, ESIC issued instructions on June 24, 2024, to upgrade all single-doctor dispensaries to two-doctor facilities. This initiative aims to bolster primary care services and establish these dispensaries as hub facilities. It also involves lowering the threshold limit of Insured Persons due to the region’s low population density, improving the doctor-patient ratio.
The ESIC empanels hospitals and health facilities to provide super speciality medical services to ESI beneficiaries for a two-year period. This currently includes 29 hospitals/health facilities in Assam, and one each in Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura.
