The National Commission for Women (NCW) took immediate action on Monday by filing a complaint with the Delhi Police regarding an offensive comment made about the widow of Kirti Chakra Captain Anshuman Singh on social media platform X.
The Delhi Police’s Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) cell registered an FIR after the inappropriate remark was brought to their attention. According to officials, the FIR was filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
Efforts are being made to gather information about the account responsible for the comment, with the social media platform being contacted for further details.
In their letter on Monday, the NCW highlighted specific legal provisions that the comment violated, including Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which penalizes actions intended to insult the modesty of a woman, and Section 67 of the IT Act, 2000, which deals with the publication or transmission of obscene material electronically.
The NCW has urged for a swift and thorough investigation and has requested a detailed action taken report (ATR) within three days.
