The INDIA alliance MLAs have decided to replace Champai Soren with Hemant Soren as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand. The decision was reached during a meeting of the INDIA alliance at the Chief Minister’s residence in Ranchi.
Sources further informed IT that the leaders of the INDIA alliance have unanimously agreed on the change in leadership. This marks the third time Hemant Soren will assume office as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand. Champai Soren is expected to resign later in the evening, around 8 pm.
Hemant Soren was released from jail on June 28 after nearly five months, following bail granted by the high court in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam. He had previously resigned as Chief Minister on January 31.
Following Hemant Soren’s arrest, Champai Soren took oath as the 12th Chief Minister of Jharkhand in February 2024.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey posted on X: “The Champai Soren era in Jharkhand has ended. In a family-oriented party, those outside the family have no political future. I wish the Chief Minister had drawn inspiration from Bhagwan Birsa Munda and stood against the corrupt Hemant Soren ji.”
In addition to the Chief Minister, Hemant Soren’s brother and minister Basant Soren, and his wife Kalpana Soren, attended the meeting. Recently, Kalpana was elected as an MLA from Gandey, winning a by-poll after JMM MLA Sarfaraz Ahmad’s resignation.
