A delegation from the Royal Government of Bhutan, led by Mr. Gem Tshering, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, met with Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change of India. The discussions covered key issues including air quality, climate change, forests, natural resources, wildlife, and renewable energy.
Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh expressed gratitude to the Bhutanese Minister for joining the International Big Cat Alliance, an Indian global initiative. He highlighted the shared geography, ecosystem, and democratic values of the two countries, emphasizing the mutual concern of climate change.
Mr. Tshering shared insights on Bhutan’s successful hosting of the Sustainable Finance for Tiger Landscape Conference in April 2024 in Paro. He noted Bhutan’s status as a carbon-negative country, with the majority of its energy derived from hydropower.
Both parties agreed to collaborate on climate change, air quality, forest and wildlife management, and capacity building in environmental and climate change fields. India proposed holding a Joint Working Group Meeting to further these efforts.
