On Saturday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with his Laotian counterpart, Saleumxay Kommasith, to witness the exchange of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on 10 Quick Impact Projects aimed at benefiting Laos. The meeting also focused on sharing successful digital solutions between the two nations.
Jaishankar’s visit to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic coincides with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meetings, highlighting the importance of regional cooperation.
The Mekong-Ganga Cooperation (MGC) initiative, involving India and five ASEAN countries—Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam—aims to enhance collaboration in tourism, culture, education, and transport and communications. This initiative has expanded to cover health and traditional medicine, agriculture, small and medium enterprises, water resources management, science and technology, skill development, and capacity building.
Through these collaborative efforts, India and Laos are set to strengthen their bilateral relationship, focusing on sustainable development and mutual growth.
