The Mission Steering Group, led by the Union Minister of Textiles, has sanctioned 19 research projects worth approximately INR 21 crore under the National Technical Textiles Mission. These projects span various crucial sectors such as composites, geo textiles, smart textiles, and machinery.
The approvals were granted during the 9th Mission Steering Group meeting, with proposals coming from prominent research institutions including the Indian Institute of Technology, National Institute of Technology, and the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research.
The Union Minister also evaluated the ongoing efforts in research and development, promotion and market expansion, export enhancement, and education, training, and skill development under the Mission. A review was conducted on 27 applications from 16 public and 11 private institutions, previously approved for introducing technical textile courses, acquiring lab infrastructure, and trainer training across various application areas. The Minister also assessed the internship and skilling initiatives undertaken by the Ministry.
Attendees at the meeting included representatives from NITI Aayog, the Principal Scientific Adviser, the Chairman of ISRO, and senior officials from various departments including Science & Technology, Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Road Transport and Highways, Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, Industry and Internal Trade, Heavy Industries, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Health and Family Welfare, the Railway Board, Water Resources, Defence, and notable industry and association members.
