The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) has given the green light to a research proposal titled “Valorization of Dredged Sediments.” The project has been allocated an estimated budget of Rs. 46,47,380/- and will be executed over three years by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay).
The primary goal of this research is to transform dredged sediments into aggregates that can be utilized in various construction fields. This initiative aims to turn what is usually considered waste into a valuable resource, promoting sustainable development and environmental protection.
The proposal was carefully reviewed during the 45th Research Committee Meeting, chaired by the Additional Secretary (Ports, Shipping & Waterways). Recognizing its potential benefits, the Research Committee recommended the proposal for approval, which has since been granted.
This research project marks a significant step forward in sustainable maritime practices. By converting dredged sediments into useful construction aggregates, it addresses both environmental concerns and resource efficiency.
MoPSW is committed to encouraging research and innovation in the maritime sector. By supporting advanced projects and partnering with leading academic institutions like IIT Bombay, the Ministry aims to develop sustainable and efficient solutions for port operations and environmental conservation.
