In a tragic incident early this morning, two people lost their lives and 20 others were injured when around 18 coaches of the Howrah-CSMT Express derailed near Badabamboo, approximately 80 km from Jamshedpur, at around 3:45 am.
Rescue teams promptly arrived at the site, and a rescue and relief operation is currently underway, according to officials. Senior Railways official Om Prakash Charan mentioned that a goods train had also derailed in the vicinity, but it remains unclear if the two incidents are connected.
Out of the 18 derailed coaches, 16 were passenger coaches, along with one power car and one pantry car. The injured received first aid from the Railways’ medical team before being transported to Chakradharpur for further treatment.
The cause of the derailment is still under investigation. To assist affected passengers, buses and additional trains have been arranged, and the Indian Railways has issued helpline numbers for assistance.
