Mumbai enjoyed a brief respite from heavy rainfall on Saturday, but the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for today, signaling the possibility of heavy rain. Despite the dry spell, the city’s lake levels have surged, securing an ample water supply.
On Saturday, Mumbai recorded no rainfall in the catchment areas of its seven crucial lakes. However, with a yellow alert in place for today, residents are advised to stay informed and plan their travel accordingly. The maximum temperature on July 27 was recorded at 29.7°C, slightly below the normal by 0.4°C. The minimum temperature for July 28 was not available, and the relative humidity was a high 90% at 5:30 PM on July 27.
In a notable exception to the dry day, the Upper Vaitarna dam received 25 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours up to Saturday morning.
Mumbai Weather Forecast
The forecast for the upcoming week shows a predominantly cloudy sky with the possibility of heavy rain today, with temperatures ranging from 25.0°C to 30.0°C. Moderate rain is expected on July 29, with temperatures between 26.0°C and 31.0°C. Light rain is anticipated on July 30 and 31, maintaining similar temperature ranges. Further rainfall is predicted for August 1 and 2, with temperatures hovering between 25.0°C and 30.0°C.
Mumbai Lake Levels
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reports a significant rise in lake water levels, with an increase of 13,397 million liters in just 24 hours. The current water stock stands at 10,41,322 million liters, which is 71.95% of the total capacity. Specifically, the levels of the lakes are as follows: Tulsi, Vihar, Modak Sagar, and Tansa are overflowing. Upper Vaitarna is at 40.91% capacity, Bhatsa at 69.79% capacity, and Middle Vaitarna at 72.29% capacity. These three lakes are the primary sources of drinking water for the city, supplying 2,977 million liters per day.
