The Supreme Court of India has decided against ordering a re-test for the NEET UG 2024 exam, stating that the data does not suggest a widespread leak of the question paper that would compromise the exam’s integrity.
Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, emphasized the lack of evidence showing any systemic breach in the conduct of the exam. Despite the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) confirming a paper leak in Hazaribagh that was transmitted to Patna on the exam day, the Court maintained that the issue did not affect the overall validity of the exam results.
The CBI detailed that the paper was accessed through the rear door of the control room by the center superintendent and was transmitted to problem solvers. However, the Solicitor General argued that the data does not show any unusual inflation in the number of successful candidates, even in the cities implicated in the leak.
Regarding the controversial Physics question with two correct answers, the Court has asked IIT Delhi to review and provide an expert opinion. The resolution of this issue could potentially impact the scores and rankings of numerous candidates.
With the Supreme Court’s ruling, the NEET UG 2024 results stand, and the counseling process for undergraduate medical admissions is expected to begin on July 24, 2024.
