Today, the Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) partnered with TransUnion CIBIL to introduce SEHER, a new initiative aimed at enhancing financial awareness among women entrepreneurs in India. SEHER aims to equip women with essential financial literacy and business skills to effectively manage credit and drive economic growth.
India currently hosts 63 million micro, small, and medium enterprises, with about 20% owned by women, contributing to the employment of 27 million people. Accelerating women’s entrepreneurship could potentially create over 30 million new women-owned enterprises, generating 150 to 170 million additional jobs.
SEHER was launched under the auspices of WEP, a public-private partnership incubated at NITI Aayog, as part of its Financing Women Collaborative (FWC) initiative. The program was inaugurated by Ms. Anna Roy, Mission Director of WEP and Principal Economic Adviser at NITI Aayog, in the presence of key stakeholders including Mr. Jitendra Asati (Director, DFS), Mr. Sunil Mehta (CEO, IBA), Mr. Neeraj Nigam (Executive Director, RBI), Ms. Mercy Epao (Joint Secretary, Ministry of MSME), and Mr. Rajesh Kumar (MD and CEO, TransUnion CIBIL).
Ms. Anna Roy highlighted the critical need to address financial literacy barriers hindering MSME growth, stressing the importance of understanding financial aspects such as CIBIL Rank and commercial credit reports. WEP aims to empower women entrepreneurs by bridging information gaps and providing comprehensive support across various domains including entrepreneurship promotion, finance access, market linkages, training, mentoring, and business development services.
Mr. Rajesh Kumar of TransUnion CIBIL emphasized the program’s role in empowering women entrepreneurs across diverse socio-economic segments. He underscored the importance of credit access and financial literacy in fostering sustainable business growth and contributing to India’s economic aspirations.
SEHER aims to provide personalized resources and tools tailored to women entrepreneurs’ needs, focusing on enhancing credit education and facilitating easier access to finance. WEP and TransUnion CIBIL are committed to promoting financial and credit awareness among women entrepreneurs nationwide, emphasizing the significance of building a strong credit history and CIBIL score.
