Civil services aspirants are staging a protest outside Rau’s IAS Study Circle in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi, following the tragic death of three IAS aspirants due to basement flooding at the coaching center on Saturday evening. The protest began overnight and continued into Sunday morning, with students chanting slogans demanding justice.
Visuals from the scene show students sitting on the road, expressing their anger and frustration. One of the protesters criticized the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), which labeled the incident a ‘disaster.’ The student argued that the flooding was due to negligence, noting that knee-deep water accumulates quickly during rain, and local residents had been requesting drainage cleaning for days.
The students are demanding accountability and an accurate count of the casualties and injuries.
The incident occurred around 7 PM on Saturday, prompting a rescue operation by the fire department. Approximately 30 students were present when the flooding started. While some managed to escape, 13-14 students were rescued and taken to a hospital. A criminal case has been filed regarding the deaths, and two individuals have been detained.
This incident follows the death of another civil services aspirant on July 22, who was electrocuted during heavy rain in Patel Nagar, Delhi.
