Top sources in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have informed News18 that JP Nadda will continue to provide advisory support during the transition to a new working president, and eventually to a full-time president.
With JP Nadda now overseeing the Health Ministry in the Narendra Modi government 3.0 and the election for the new BJP chief not expected before January 2025, the party is planning to appoint a working president to share the workload.
Nadda’s term as the BJP national president ended in June 2024, but he will remain in his role until a new party chief is selected, according to a resolution passed at the BJP National Executive meeting last year.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, and BJP General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh at the Parliament complex. The meeting lasted nearly two hours. After Santosh and Nadda left, PM Modi held a one-on-one discussion with Amit Shah, reportedly focusing on the next BJP working president.
The BJP has not officially disclosed potential candidates, but a two-day meeting of all its General Secretaries (Organisation) from across states began on Thursday. This meeting is expected to finalize deliberations on the BJP’s performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, and the working president’s role is likely to be discussed.
Top BJP sources confirmed to News18 that Nadda will remain available for advisory roles during the transition period and later for the full-time president.
