Meta-owned popular messaging platform, WhatsApp, recently introduced Meta AI chatbots in select markets, including India. Now, it has begun testing a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that allows users to create personalized stickers or AI avatars using their images.
The feature, named ‘Imagine Me,’ was spotted by Meta Info via a leaked screenshot. It allows users to generate images of themselves through the Meta AI chatbot. When users opt into the feature, the messaging service may request a handful of selfies to create AI-generated stickers of the user. This innovative tool provides a creative alternative to the usual profile pictures by enabling users to personalize their avatars with AI-generated images.
The ‘Imagine Me’ feature was confirmed by WABetaInfo, which discovered this upcoming AI tool in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.14.13 update. The feature is designed to be optional, requiring users to manually enable it in their settings before they can use it. Once activated, users can enjoy customizing their profile avatars with various backgrounds and locations, such as forests, space, and other imaginative settings, enhancing the visual appeal of their profile pictures.
To initiate this feature, users will be able to type “@Meta AI Imagine me” within the WhatsApp chat. This command will activate the Meta AI chatbot, which is powered by the Llama 3 large language model (LLM). The chatbot will then guide users through the process of creating their personalized stickers or avatars. The tool aims to provide a fun and engaging way for users to express themselves creatively through their profile pictures.
The introduction of the ‘Imagine Me’ feature is part of WhatsApp’s broader strategy to incorporate more AI-driven functionalities into its platform. By leveraging the capabilities of the Llama 3 LLM, WhatsApp aims to offer users a unique and interactive way to personalize their online presence. The ability to create AI-generated avatars not only adds a fun element to the user experience but also showcases the potential of AI in transforming digital interactions.
Moreover, the optional nature of this feature ensures that users have control over their privacy and personalization choices. Those who prefer traditional profile pictures can continue using them, while others who enjoy experimenting with new technologies can explore the creative possibilities offered by ‘Imagine Me.’
