Bihar Government Transfers 150 Acres for AIIMS Darbhanga Construction
The Bihar government has officially transferred 150.13 acres of land at Ekmi Shobhan bypass in Darbhanga to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW) for the construction of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Darbhanga. This move follows the health ministry’s approval for the project on July 25.
According to Pratyaya Amrit, Bihar’s Additional Chief Secretary for Health, the remaining 37.31 acres required for the project will be handed over next week. The AIIMS Darbhanga will be the second such institution in the state, following AIIMS Patna.
Dr. Madhabananda Kar, Executive Director of AIIMS Darbhanga, expressed the team’s preference for over 200 acres to facilitate comprehensive construction in a single phase. However, with the current land acquisition, the project is set to move forward swiftly.
Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey confirmed that construction would commence soon, noting that he had previously met with Union Health Minister JP Nadda to expedite the project. Following this meeting, the Centre requested the prompt transfer of land to initiate the construction.
The proposal for a second AIIMS in Bihar was first put forward by the state government three years ago, and with this land transfer, the long-awaited project is now set to begin.
