Chirag Paswan, President of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and MP for Hajipur, has denounced the Union Public Service Commission’s (UPSC) recent lateral entry initiative as “completely wrong.” He announced his intention to bring this matter before the government.
On August 17, the UPSC released a notice inviting applications for “talented and motivated Indian nationals” for lateral recruitment to the roles of joint secretary, director, and deputy secretary across 24 Union Government ministries.
Paswan, a key ally of the NDA, is the first to criticize this move, which involves filling 45 bureaucratic positions. He emphasized that his party, the LJP (RV), is “absolutely not in favour” of these appointments. He asserted that government appointments should adhere to reservation provisions.
Paswan expressed concern over the manner in which this issue has emerged, particularly given his party’s role in the government and his ability to highlight such concerns.
Earlier in the day, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also criticized the lateral entry scheme, accusing the BJP of undermining constitutional provisions and marginalizing Dalits, OBCs, and Adivasis.
