On August 28, 2024, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, chaired a roundtable meeting with representatives from Central Trade Union Organisations (CTUOs) in New Delhi. The meeting was also attended by Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment, Smt. Shobha Karandlaje, and senior officials from the Ministry.
The primary agenda of the meeting was to discuss the newly proposed Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme, which was recently introduced in the Union Budget, alongside other labour welfare initiatives.
Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the government’s steadfast commitment to enhancing labour welfare and boosting employment, acknowledging the crucial role of the labour force in driving the nation’s economic progress. He highlighted the importance of trade unions as the representatives of workers, whose feedback is essential for crafting effective, fair, and inclusive policies.
The meeting included a presentation on the ELI scheme, with Dr. Mandaviya inviting suggestions from trade union representatives on its development. He explained that the ELI scheme aims to motivate businesses to create more job opportunities and provide meaningful employment for the youth.
Dr. Mandaviya underscored the value of trade union input in ensuring that policies and schemes serve the interests of all stakeholders. Representatives from various CTUOs shared their views on the scheme and other government labour welfare measures. The Minister assured that such consultations would be an ongoing process, with the government committed to incorporating trade union feedback to foster fairness, inclusivity, and equitable growth.
